Pescara (IPA: [pesˈkaːra], Pescàrë in pescarese) è un comune italiano di 120.231 abitanti, capoluogo dell'omonima provincia in Abruzzo. È la città più popolosa dell'Abruzzo ed è insieme con L'Aquila sede degli uffici del Consiglio, della Giunta e degli Assessorati regionali[10]. Pur avendo un aspetto prevalentemente moderno è una città con antiche origini. L'attuale divisione amministrativa è nata dalla fusione di Pescara con il comune limitrofo di Castellammare Adriatico nel 1927, con la costituzione della provincia. Pescara è vivace punto di vista culturale, avendo dato i natali a personalità come Gabriele D'Annunzio ed Ennio Flaiano, ed essendo sede di importanti manifestazioni quali, ad esempio, il Pescara Jazz (primo festival estivo italiano dedicato a questo genere musicale), il Premio Ennio Flaiano e la rassegna d'arte contemporanea Fuori Uso. La città ha anche una notevole tradizione sportiva, avendo ospitato la XVI edizione dei Giochi del Mediterraneo nel 2009 e la Coppa Acerbo dal 1929 al 1961. Inoltre, dal 1945 vi si svolge ogni anno il Trofeo ciclistico Matteotti.
